Depending on charger configuration, MSRP for the Strion LED HL is around $200, and the light is only available in black. Most configurations can be found for around $120.
Streamlight offers various packages for their rechargeable lights, with choices for input voltage and charging options (AC and DC, AC only, DC only, or light only). Batteries
Streamlight has updated the proprietary rechargeable 2000mAh lithium-ion battery used in the Strion LED, which can now be recharged up to 1000 times.
To charge the light, insert the barrel of the light into the charger, and pull down until it locks. Charging time can take up to three hours.
The Light
The Strion LED HL, which is slightly shorter than the Strion LED, is about the size of a typical tactical flashlight. The aluminum body is type-II anodized to protect against scratches and corrosion.
Head
The Borofloat high-temperature glass window is gasket-sealed, and the plastic reflector is lightly textured on the bottom and smooth on the top.
Body
Charging contacts are on the back of the light, on an elevated triangle that aligns the charging contacts with the cradle. Multiple bands of knurling on the body make it easy to maintain a secure grip on the light.
Tail Cap
On the tail cap is a momentary-capable electronic switch, which is responsive with good travel and covered by textured black rubber.
Modes
The Strion LED shares the same four-mode user interface of the Stinger LED lights.
Single Click: High (500 Lumens)
A single click activates maximum output.
Click and Hold: High-Medium-Low (500, 250, 125 Lumens)
When the switch is pressed and held, the light will cycle through three brightness levels in the following order: high-medium-low-medium-high. Output level can be changed anytime, even if the light is already turned on, and when the switch is released, the output level will be set.
Two Fast Clicks: Strobe (500 Lumens)
With two fast clicks, the maximum output strobe is activated. Strobe can be activated anytime, even if the light is already turned on.
For all modes, a single click will turn the light off. Since the light uses electronic switches, there is a small standby current drain of 5 µA (0.005 mA).
Performance
Using a Cree XM-L LED, the Strion LED HL has a maximum output of 500 lumens and 10,000 candela. The Strion LED HL has a revised head that is 0.1” shorter than the Strion LED, reducing the overall length of the light by that much.
Beam profile of the Strion LED HL is smooth and wide. Compared to the Strion LED, the updated model has a similar beam pattern with a larger and brighter hotspot.

The Strion LED HL reduces output to 65% during the one-hour runtime on high, and a similar reduction to 70% output can also be seen on medium mode.
Conclusion
The Streamlight Strion LED HL is highly competitive within the ultra-high output rechargeable flashlight market with its current price point of around $120. Although it lacks fancy features such as programmable function sets or the ability to use disposable batteries as an alternate power source, the Strion LED HL is one of the smallest rechargeable lights with this kind of performance. Nothing comes without a tradeoff, and the increased output means that the HL’s runtime on high is only half that of the non-HL model. That’s a small price to pay though, right?
